It has been an interesting day today. Earlier, on our way to the cafeteria for lunch, Michael and I decided to go by the ATM to check the balance in our bank account. Michael stuck the pass book (a funny booklet that is used like a debit card) into the ATM and received a receipt. Then we waiting for the booklet to be given back to us; however, instead of giving it back, the machine gave us another receipt and seemed to be done doing business with us. Of course, everything was in Korean, so we had no idea what was going on. Thankfully, there was a Korean student waiting behind us who (also thankfully) knew enough English to understand our questions and be able to tell us that the machine encountered and error and wouldn't work anymore. Meanwhile, there was a line of people outside the ATM waiting to use it. But there was nothing we could do and the machine wasn't working anymore, so we had to leave. So, in the end, we're down a pass book, and still don't know how much money we have in our account. And, no one else was able to use the ATM after us. Bummer.
Then, a little while later, Michael and I got on a bus to go to Emart. It was the same bus that we had taken to Emart before (well, same number bus but probably different bus. But, you know what I mean.).
Anyway, we rode along, waiting to see Emart so that we could get off; however, the bus seemed to take different turns than the last time and we realized that we were in a part of town where we had never been before. Eventually, we were the only ones on the bus and the bus driver stopped, opened the exit door, and made us get off.
So, we had to start back tracking and eventually, we made it to Emart. Not exactly the adventure we were looking for today.
We took a few minutes to sit down and enjoy a couple of iced cafe lattes from McDonald's and then got some groceries.
We then began our trek back to our apartment. When we got on the bus, it was full - standing room only. As I situated myself by a pole to hang on to, a kind, elderly Korean woman who was in the seat next to where I was standing, offered to hold my Emart bag. That way, I wouldn't have to hold my bag and try not to fall over.
So, after our day of misadventures, a sweet Korean lady made it better.
